The Georgian era is a period in British history 1714 to 1830. The kings were all named George: George I, George II, George III and George IV. The sub-period of the Regency is defined by the Regency of George IV as Prince of Wales during the illness of his father George III. The definition of the Georgian era is often extended to include the short reign of William IV, which ended with his death in 1837.

Too bad the Earl has no idea who she is! Mortified Lydia tries to leave, but a zebra stampede and an Earl who needs her help, change her plans. And so, begins a wild road trip and the chance for a once in a lifetime type of love, as long as her own self-doubts don’t prevent her from risking her heart.

Arthur Baird, the Earl of Strathrannoch is stunned when a lovely young woman comes to his door and proposes marriage. Too bad she thinks he is his younger brother Davis, but maybe he could ask for her to find him, as he is worried that his brother has stolen his latest invention for nefarious reasons. Arthur can’t help but to fall for Lydia, she is everything he could have ever wanted in a woman, but he believes that she is in love with his brother and tries to keep his distance. But the more time they spend together, the harder it gets. And when they are following a lead and are caught in a compromising position, Lydia says they are newlyweds, Arthur begins to have hope that maybe her feelings for Davis aren’t as serious as he thought. But just when he thinks they are headed for happily ever after, his own feelings of inadequacy may cost him the love of a lifetime.

I will be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book and almost passed on this ARC, but thankfully, I decided to give the book a chance and I am so happy I did! This book is a delightful read, filled with imperfect characters, dear friends, a protective family, spies, secrets, zebras, steamy love scenes, insecurities, a beautiful soulmate-type love, and finally a happily ever after with the sweetest epilogue I have read in quite some time. I did feel like the book dragged in places, but OMG – Arthur – he more than makes up for that and is now on my top five favorite heroes of all time and has been elevated to book-boyfriend status. This is the second book in the series (it doesn’t seem to have an official series title, but I am calling it Belvoir’s) and could be read as a standalone title without any problems. Needless to say, I would happily recommend this book to my fellow HR readers and am looking forward to the next installment!

Lady Georgiana Stewart, the daughter of the Duke of Hovington, is preparing for her second season and knows that her parents are expecting her to find a husband this year after refusing 16 proposals in her first season. This year there is a rumor that Jasper Taverston, the heir to the Earl of Iversley is looking for a bride and has set his sights on Georgiana. Too bad she doesn’t feel anything for him beyond friendship. When Jasper is called home to attend to his ailing father, Georgiana and her cousin Alice Fogbotham are invited to his family’s country estate, presumably so Jasper can continue his courting. At first, Georgiana resigns herself to accepting Jasper, but when she meets his younger brother Reginald, she knows that she can’t marry Jasper. And when she helps him sort out a problem and he praises her intellect, she falls hopelessly in love with the wrong brother.

Reginald Taverston is the youngest (and most brilliant) son of the Earl of Iversley, when his mistress dumps him, he is happy for an excuse to retire to the country, but not happy at the reason. His father suffered a stroke a year ago and has now taken a turn for the worse. His family expects him to pursue a career in the church, but that is not where is heart is, he would rather continue his Greek translations at Cambridge and wonders how he can break this news to his family. In the meantime, he agrees to help Jasper get the estate’s accounts in order before the steward arrives and to help entertain his houseguests – neither is going well. First, he can’t seem to balance the accounts and when Georgiana offers to help, he falls head over heels in love with the one woman he can’t have.

This was a new to me author, whose writing style I enjoyed. In my personal opinion, the book moved a bit slow at points, the love scenes are barely lukewarm and there were a lot of characters to keep track of, but overall, it was an interesting story with likable characters and the author did a nice job of setting readers up for the next book in what appears to be at least a four-book series. While not perfect, it was a very entertaining read and a book I would happily recommend, and I am looking forward to reading the next installment.
