After spending two years as a prisoner of war and being presumed dead, Lorne Gordon, the Duke of Sutherland and Chief of Clan Sutherland is back in Scotland and eager to get home to Dunrobin Castle. But his joy is cut short when he learns that his brother sold his castle and has disappeared with the money. Eager for a resolution Lorne travels to Edinburgh to confront the buyer and have the sale nullified. He is shocked to learn that the mysterious buyer is none other than his former fiancée’s sister and that she has no intention of returning this castle to him!

Jaime Andrewson, the daughter of the late Viscount Whittleburn and sister to Shanna, the duke’s former and now disgraced fiancée. Years ago Lorne refused to marry her pregnant sister and left her to face society’s scorn with no remorse. Shanna was sent away and disowned, leaving Jaime as the sole heir to her family’s shipping empire. Jaime expanded the shipping business and is now a very rich woman, so rich that she has the money to enact her revenge against the man that ruined her sister. And what better revenge than to purchase his beloved home and give it to her sister and nephew, the very people he spurned!

But when Jaime and Lorne meet again, sparks will fly and they will soon discover that things don’t add up and they both realize that they may have been duped and will need to work together to learn the truth and set things right. Jaime tries hard to fight the attraction that she has for the man that she believes she should hate. But the heart wants what the heart wants and Lorne has decided that his wants Jaime, so now he will have to prove he is not the rogue she believes and win her not only her trust but also her love.

This was a well-written book that was much more light-hearted than I was expecting. The book has a bit of everything: secrets, lies, witty banter, likable characters, steamyish love scenes, shocking revelations, a dash of forbidden love, and a HEA complete with an epilogue. I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed with the villains getting off too easily and that Lorne’s time as a POW was glossed over, but overall this was a very enjoyable read and I would happily recommend it to anyone.

Kenna Forbes resides at Culloden House with her paternal Uncle Duncan, who took her in when her parents died fighting with the rebels years ago. While Kenna loves her uncle and cousin Elizabeth, she is not happy that her uncle is a Loyalist and supports King George. She is getting ready to join her uncle and his guests, primarily Redcoats, wearing a plaid gown that was her mother’s. But at the last moment, she changes her mind and decides to return to her room to change – this is when she meets Sorley MacLeod aka the Retriever – the man sent by her maternal uncle, Laird MacLeod to bring her to his home on Skye.

Sorley is immediately enchanted by Kenna, especially when she pulls a knife on him!! But she steals his heart when she saves him from being discovered and leads them out of the house through a secret passage. Kenna isn’t sure why, but she feels safe with Sorley and agrees to travel with him to meet with her uncle. But the longer she is with him, the deeper her feelings grow and makes them wonder, is it possible to fall in love with a stranger in a matter of days?

This was a well-written, fast-paced, fun novella that although it is short, was a satisfying, well-developed story. The story unfolds perfectly and left this reader very happy. Filled with wonderful characters, a bit of action, some warm love scenes, and a HEA that didn’t feel rushed. As a bonus, fans of the Prince Charlie’s Angels series will be in for a treat with cameos from several characters, both friend and foe! This novella is part of a series and has strong ties to the previously mentioned series, but it is easily read as a standalone title with no issues. I really enjoyed this book and am happy to recommend this title.
