When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Fortunately, the lovely people at Harlequin Mills & Boon took pity on her and decided to publish her romances, but it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

Tracy’s Review

The Disgraceful Lord Gray (The King's Elite #3)The Disgraceful Lord Gray by Virginia Heath

Tracy’s rating: 5 of 5 stars

Series: The King’s Elite #3

Release Date: April 1, 2018

Lord Graham Chadwick better known as Gray, is a member of the King’s Elite and currently hot on the trail of the elusive “Boss”, the criminal mastermind who is not only smuggling goods, but is also responsible for the death of several agents and the murder of the Elite’s best leads. Gray along with Lord Fennimore, have settled into a house neighboring their best suspect – Viscount Gislingham.

Theodora “Thea” Crawford is the niece of Lord Gislingham and a considerable heiress, but past experiences have left her a mere shadow of her former self – she is all that is proper and ladylike, and more than a bit jaded and cynical about men. So when she and her friend Harriet, Lady Crudington come across a very naked Gray taking a dip in the river, she of course averted her view (mostly) and immediately decided that he was a no-good scoundrel and most likely a fortune hunter.

Gray realizing the important opportunity being laid at his feet, immediately tries to rectify the situation, but thanks to his dog Trefor and his immediately love for Thea, things go from bad to worse. Desperate to get into her good graces, Gray tries to turn her sweet and fails miserably.

Eventually, Thea has to admit that she likes Gray and for his part, Gray finds that he likes Thea, more than he would like. But he has a job to do and no matter how delicious her kisses or how enticing her personality, he will not fail. Besides, he has been in love before and it ended badly, so he will not risk making the same mistake twice – or will he?

Can love bloom where secrets and lies abound? Will the truth ease the sting of betrayal? Will gray catch “The Boss” and earn his promotion? You will just have to read this delightful tale yourself to find out!

This story has a lot of humor, but it is tempered by deeper emotion and kept interesting with several revelations and twists. This is the third book in The King’s Elite series, and in my opinion, the best of the bunch – the writing is impeccable, the story absorbing, the mystery is good, the love scenes warmish and the characters are likable and relatable. I am happy to recommend this book and believe that it can absolutely be read as a stand alone title.
